Determining nursing students' entrepreneurship and individual innovation tendencies

Aim: This study has been made to identify entrepreneurial and individual innovative
tendencies of nursing students.
Methods: A sample the descriptive research was made up of 393 nursing students who
agreed to participate in the study. The study data has been acquired by using Personal
Information Form, Entrepreneurial Tendency Scale and Individual Innovative Tendency
Scale.
Results: %73.3 of the students that participated in the study are women, %98.7 are
singles. %46.8 of the students have stated that the concept of innovation and doesn't
include their curriculum, %53.4 the concept of entrepreneurship doesn't include their
curriculum, %85.0 have not engaged in any kind of entrepreneurial activities and %62.6
don't have any business idea of their own. It was determined that female students and
students over the age of 20 had higher entrepreneurship and innovation scores. The
students who were single and reported to be engaged in any entrepreneurial activity had
higher entrepreneurial scores. There was no difference in the average score for innovation
and entrepreneurship according to the class in which students studied and where they
lived. It has been indicated that there is a positive correlation between the
entrepreneurship and the personal innovativeness points of the students.
Conlusions: It is seen that the individual innovation and entrepreneurship characteristics of nursing students participating in the
research are not at the rates requested, and that entrepreneurship activity is a factor that supports the entrepreneurial potential of
students. It will be useful to make curricular arrangements to contribute to increasing students’ familiarity with the concepts of
innovation and entrepreneurship and to supporting their innovative and entrepreneurial behavior.
